Paintfree Dent Removal, or PDR, is the art of removing dents and dings from auto panels without the use of fillers and repainting. This is possible due to “memory” in today’s auto metals. It is this memory that gives cars their many curves, lines, and aerodynamic features. It is also this memory that makes those unsightly dents and dings we get from parking lots, storms and hail stones. PDR professionals use these physical properties of today’s flexible metals to massage the memory back to the way it was. After accessing the backside of the damaged panel, the technician is aided by very graphic lighting, enabling him or her to significantly improve or fully restore the panel to pre-accident condition, in as little as a few minutes per dent.
Does PDR work on severe hail damage?
By far, hail damage is the most effective use of PDR, as most hail damage is very light in nature. However, it is important to recognize that severe claims can include panel replacement and more traditional fill and paint methods.
How does the PDR process not crack the paint?
Assuming that the dent is a good candidate for PDR, today’s more flexible metals also require flexible paint. You can think of today’s paints as a marriage between rubber and color. Flex agents in the paint makes PDR completely effective without any harm to the finish.
Will I be able to see the repair areas when it is complete?
Absolutely not! Please keep in mind that PDR is a craft oriented industry and not everyone is as skilled as others. Ask your local shop or insurance agent for a list of skilled repairers, or do your own research with internet or yellow pages under PDR or dent repair. Of course at any time you may call our toll free number,
1-866-dentsmart (336-8762) should you have more questions. We personally assist all of our calls 365 days of the year and would love to hear from you!
Is there a chance the dents will reappear at a later time?
Absolutely not! While we can only speak for ourselves, a properly repaired car has no repair issues from the moment you pick it up and inspect it until the day you take it to the crusher for scrap. Dentsmart has the best equipped, best trained technicians in the industry. Outstanding techs produce outstanding results, and we even put that in writing for you!
What size dent can a PDR technician repair?
A good rule of thumb for hail damage is 3 inches or less, or about the width of a credit card. Other issues are number of dents per panel, and the condition of the car’s finish. Anything hail related that is bigger than 3 inches is most likely stretched and may require conventional repair methods or panel replacement. It is important to know that even skilled technicians have their limits.
